Enough’s enough.
One of the reasons I started YKTR Sports was because media dictated the messages filtered out to fans. It didn’t matter if it was true or not.
Our first motto was ‘Player to fan – Fan to player’.
I wanted to create a platform where the player was source of all media, not the media be the source.
In all honesty there has been a little shift away from that for us but we do have a long way to go. And tall poppy syndrome is a national disgrace.
Trust me I get it. I’m a fan too!
Most footy players are fans of something. Gearing up all week excited to watch your team play is mad.
Losing makes my stomach drop and I have my opinions of course – I’m just like you.
But publicly sharing those negative opinions backed up with hate speech is where it gets yuck for me.
I saw the post with Jack Bird last week really opened up can of worms for a lot of people
Some were shocked – I can tell you most players weren’t.
As someone who’s friends with a lot of footy players, I’ve seen some disgusting messages.
Death threats, wishing harm, wishing injury etc etc..
It’s crazy what people will write to another person behind the comfort of an anonymous account and the comfort if their own home.
The Internet has broken down so many walls. One of those walls is access!
We can message almost any person on the planet if they have social media and personally, I love it – and I love social media for that very reason.
It’s a tool. And like all tools it can be used for both good and bad.
I think players have had enough, Call-OutSZN is upon us.
Don’t be surprised if players start publicly calling these people out – and so they should, they’ve had enough
Rule of thumb: If you wouldn’t say it to their face sober, don’t say it online.
Stay Kind My friends – bare in mind Im a Knights Fan atm……
Grateful though 🙂
